I had no idea there was a 2 & 3 of Maniac Cop. I remember that film being really good and engaging. Next time I’m at the store going to see if they have part 2, sounds scary. Funny coincidence I just see Zdar in a movie called Body Shop, he was good but the movie lacked substance.
I agree with Horror Gal that this film wasn’t particularly memorable. Remember, that in 1988, when the first Maniac Cop movie was released, “Alfred Hitchcock Presents” was still on television. Special effects weren’t all that sophisticated yet, but the bar was still set pretty high for the horror/thriller genre.
I think that some of the trivia surrounding this movie is more interesting than the movie itself. Does anyone remember that director William Lustig was the nephew of famous boxer Jake LaMotta? Or how about Laurene Landon, the actress that Horror Gal loves to hate. She wanted to BE a cop before she turned to acting instead. She actually enrolled in Cal-State’s Police Academy at one point. This is funny to me for some reason.
I agree with Horror Guy that this series of films are all revenge movies. They aren’t great revenge movies though. If you want to see a great “revenge” horror flick, go see “Carrie” instead.
I also didn’t know there were 2 sequels. I remember watching the first part when I was little – I was afraid of cops for the next 3 years lol.
The funny thing is that we (my family) have a friend family with father and son who are policemen – I remember always screaming and hiding behind my mother when I saw them in the police uniform hahaha.
I should probably watch these sequels, I’m curious to see if my child fears and nightmares might surface again
.
i really enjoyed this episode it was one of those great action horror movies you forget over time. i think i am going to try and find a box set of this because i would like to rewatch them all.
Wow, it was like more than a decade ago that I’ve ever watch the Maniac Cop (I can’t even remember whether it’s the original, the sequel or the 3rd part lol)
Seeing the maniac cop as a kid was very scary..weird…I dont get scared anymore

You make some very good points with this horror franchise. Im very intrigued with Maniac Cop and I myself do alot of research as well. Either way it was a well thoughtout podcast with great music and sound clips, so I figured I would leave you a comment.
I’m happy I discovered your audiocast, I liked the trailer cuts and soundtrack implemented in this episode. Gonna buy all 3 of the Cop movies as I never have seen them.
Never even heard of this trilogy, going to run down and get this series, sounds very good. Thanks for the excellent audio with a nice music mixture.

This is a awesome podcast, I stumbled across this looking to buy Maniac Cop 1&2. Thanks for sharing, I’ll be sure to return regularly.
Very useful and meaningful information that you have on your horror website. Forgot all about Maniac Cop, thx for the classic reviews.
That is As good as it gets, super episode and super trilogy discussion, tough to get the set in India but I will try.
Sweet trilogy discussion, like the added trailers/sound/effects really keeps you engaged. A+ Work.
Hey, great blog, stupendous episode, really a fun listen. I too love the whistling theme Horror Guy!
Isn’t this amazing I am 43 and never heard of this trilogy. I admit I am rather a little newer to the horror scene, maybe 10+ years now. Many stars and a great killer, can’t go wrong, and I can’t wait to see all of these back to back to back!
I was so frustrated beacuse I wanted to buy this set, but the place on-line is backordered. I am gonna check at local stores for it. Wonderful podcast and thanks for bringing these horror movie reviews for us listeners.
