Episode 49 Podcast starts off with a review and rating of Predators which is currently playing at most theaters. The film stars Adrien Brody and Alice Braga, along with a brief role for Laurence Fishburne. An alien race captures several humans and whisks them away to another planet where they are hunted as game.
The second review this week is for Beyond The Darkness, an Italian film that has an alternative title of Buio Omega. This was released yesterday on DVD and BluRay as a double-disc set. Directed by the famous Joe D’Amato this movie is about a 22 year old guy who lost his fiance and turns into a cannibalistic serial killer with the help of the house maid.

I was never a fan of Arnold, so I could like this version better, but I don’t know. Mimic was awesome horror gal – great pick.
Man I wish I would of heard your Podcast before I went to the movie theater. You are right, Predators was a rip-off, spent $80.00 for the family and I want my money back.
There was only one alien in Predator.
Part two was in LA during a gang war.
Why bring up the Brody’s nose in your review? No one is perfect and it has nothing to do with the film.
Brody’s character finds out they are being hunted because he is a hunter. He says numerous times that he would do the same if he were hunting. He recognized the hunting techniques becuase they are similar to human hunting techniques.
They find the first Predator AFTER they go to higher ground.
I am glad they didn’t explain how they got to the planet. Who cares? Having everything explained is saying the audience has to be talked down to becuase they just won’t get it otherwise. They certainly didn’t talk down in Inception.
Brody shot through the ship (how do you know it was a ship?) which is how the aliens found Fishburne after ten years. They did not just spontaneously find him after all that time.
The traps gave away the fact they were being hunted. Brody recognized the hunting traps and the use of dogs to test your prey. Hunting 101.
The Aliens can speak English given enough time. The Alien at the end of Predator speaks English to Arnold then laughs in Billy’s voice before he blows himself up. The Alien in Predator 2 says “Motherf***er.
There is no button Predators can push to repair themselves. WTF!!!!. AHAHAHAHAHAH. They have med-kits. When they got hurt they would perform first aid on themselves. In first film, the Predator plugged a bullet hole from Mac after it killed Blain (Jesse Venture) then screamed out in pain after injecting itself with a needle. In the second film, the Predator got his arm cut off at the forearm, cauterized the wound then gave himself an injection that produced a scream. No magic button.
Brody won the Oscar for The Pianist.
Your comments on Brody’s size, him being no Arnold. Real soldiers are not Arnold’s size. Soldiers get three meals a day and work 9-18 hour days. To be Arnold’s size requires 6+ meals a day plus 3-4 days in the gym per week. Even if a soldier comes into boot camp Arnold’s size, he can’t keep the weight because they make soldiers run 3 miles 3-4 times a week + physical training (PT). This keeps the soldiers lean, mean and fit, like Brody and Braga.
My Predators Film Review:
http://film-book.com/film-review-predators/
Film Book: Wow, thanks for the excellent mini-book you wrote, we love hearing detailed analysis from our listeners.
Just a few rebuttals on your comment, I know you didn’t want to know how they miraculously ended up on another planet, but I did, I feel it is a significant plot hole. 30 seconds is all that was needed, maybe by Fishbourne when he was telling the new arrivals all about the Predators hunting game.
Next, Brody was mis-cast period! He is not a “macho” guy that fits the role. He was better in Splice as a wimpy Scientist but still I don’t think he is a great actor, slightly better than average at best.
Also, I didn’t think their was more than one Predator in the original. Still tho, I was never a huge fan of this series, but nonetheless Arnold made the movie and without him felt wrong, just like in the 2nd one which was horrible.
Anyways, thanks again for listening to The Horror Movie Show.
I am with you Horrorgal+guy this Predators saga is over, been ruined, was so disappointed with the whole theme of the movie. What made it exciting was they were on our soil attacking us, bad move…a dud.
I will rent both of your picks this week, I vaguely remember Mimic, so I will rewatch that and never seen Storm Warning.
You’re right, thirty seconds is all it would require but it was also not necessary (in my opinion).
It was not Brody that was bad, his character was not as well written as the others were – which is weird. You can only do so much with facial expressions and average lines of dialogue. Johnny Depp may have fared just as well.
You shouldn’t talk about things you have no idea about. I wanted to pull out my hair when “Horror Gal” tells the audience that the original “predator” has multiple Predators in it….You both have no idea what you are talking about. Seriously get your fact straight. I like picking and listening to podcasts that the host knows info about what they are talking about and have done there homework….for a first time listener, I’m surely disappointed and will not be downloading again….bush league!!!
Hey, im really pleased
with your reviews, I for one will be avoiding Predators, they should of made another AVP, much scarier and I like the battles the 2 alien forces had, quite intense.
Re: BruceVain
Sorry I made a mistake about how many predators there were in the first movie, its just I watch so many horror movies that I sometimes get them confused. They all start running together after you have watched as many as I have, but I will make sure that I don’t make a mistake like that again.
Sincerely Horror Gal

Don’t fret Gal,the BruceVain dude is from the killerreviews podcast, apparently a “hater” and “jealous” that your podcast is #1 and you guys have tons more listeners.
I am in total agreement that this was a wrong role for Brody. Me being a pretty diehard fan of the Predator series including Alien vs Predator, I was just happy to see another one. I am glad I seen it but wouldn’t recommend anyone else too, unless they are a huge fan like me.
Predators was fraking horrible!! nimrod and rodriguez should be shot!!
What an absolute poor reboot of Predators!!!
I agree with the hosts, poor and dumb, just think about all the teenagers who know nothing about this alien creature, not scary in the least.
Buio Omega (BtD) is somewhat of a classic. Come on Horror Girl don’t you think it garnered more than a 2. There;s things in this movie that were quite vial and freaky, mainly the embalming seen with his love, the tubes up the nose was an awesome effect.
I was never a fan of Predator, your review sounds just like how I would picture this flegling series. Wouldn’t even consider seeing it at the theater, or on TV for that matter.
A quick comment on the Predators speaking English – Human hunters learn birdcalls.
They don’t necessarily have to know what they’re saying, they’re just mimicking noises to attract prey.
8)
I didn’t hate the film.
Oh, and…
I agree with you on Sentinal – GAL. The 70s was the era of the religious thriller, and this one had some really good/strange undertones…
But I must say while Mimic was entertaining, it BLATANTLY falls apart in the science, in such stupid grade school science ways, that I can’t overcome my disbelief and stop screaming at it. Not even for a minute.
i am with the hosts – predators was a joke wasted my money – the series is OVER now!!!
Predators bit the big one!!!!! Actually the hosts were a little gracious with your reviews and ratings, so for the commentors above that liked it, really don’t know what movie you were watching sure the heck not this one!
thx for predators review ! very informative !
These companies keep trying to milk all they can out of series’s. Avoiding Predators even when it comes to DVD. Nice podcast a pure positive for horror gurus.
